Over the last two decades, Dianne Vavra has built a name as one of the most respected and influential executives in the beauty industry. Editors and celebrities will happily travel far and wide to support one of Dianne’s endeavors, and executives are consistently amazed by her forward-thinking ideas, entrepreneurial spirit, and inexhaustible initiative.
A native of New York’s Upper East Side, Dianne grew up just blocks away from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, surrounded by art, fashion, and beauty. Early on, she was mesmerized by the power of personal style, and the rituals of getting dressed—from the unexpected flair of a vintage belt to the last swipe of red lipstick. As a child, she spent hours watching the well-heeled women treat Fifth Avenue like a catwalk.
After graduating from FIT with a degree in Marketing Communications, Dianne began her career at a public relations agency where she handled both fashion and beauty clients. She was quickly recruited by Estée Lauder, where she stayed for three years.
As the marketing director of an upscale Long Island shopping center, Dianne rounded out her skill-set by managing multiple aspects of the business, including marketing, advertising, special events, direct mail campaigns, and, of course, public relations.
It was Dianne’s move to Christian Dior Perfumes & Cosmetics in 1998 that signaled a new era for the luxury brand. At the time, Dior was on the brink of an image overhaul, and Dianne’s keen sense of style, razor-sharp instincts, and infectious joie-de-vivre helped bring the once sleepy line to the forefront of chic.
Since, Dior Beauty has grown astronomically as a brand, attracting a legion of buzz-worthy fans, from influencers to A-List celebrities
to top makeup artists. Dianne’s profile has grown as well—she was a favorite subject of the New York Times legendary photographer Bill Cunningham, she regularly appears in the press as an industry expert, and has designed her own line of trench coats LE Trench that has caught the attention of international personalities, celebrities and influencers alike.
Most recently, in her role as Senior Vice President of Press Relations for Dior Beauty, Dianne oversaw all aspects of the brand’s press effort, from print, digital and broadcast strategy and budget to image events, VIP, celebrity and influencer relations. She was responsible for creating the industry’s first (and often-copied) influencer program, hiring an in-house DJ and an artist-in- residence (who she discovered on Instagram) among others. She directed and negotiated celebrity spokespeople in the US and developed an unrivaled following of industry advocates from makeup artists to stylists to dermatologists and aestheticians. She consistently maintained a number one press ranking for Dior.
Today, after 19 years at Dior, Dianne is embarking on a new venture—launching SpotlightBeauty, a 360° consulting agency that specializes in what comes naturally to Dianne. SpotlightBeauty creates and executes a comprehensive media strategy for established and emerging brands, or enhances brands' current communications effort—focusing on digital, influencer, blogger, print, makeup artist and celebrity relations. An innovative and creative thinker, a talented and tireless leader, Dianne is poised to enlighten and elevate her clients to a new level of brand awareness, fueling brand growth and, ultimately, increasing sales.
